Y’all have no idea how much fun I have compiling each month’s playlist! Here’s my latest just in time for April 1st! (Like… how is it already April?!) There’s an interesting mix of genres on this list as per usual, but I would love to hear your thoughts! (Be sure to scroll down for the full list of songs and if you’re a Spotify user, you can follow the playlist!)
Last weekend my childhood best friend, Lauren, and I traveled to Chicago for for a friend’s wedding. (You might remember my last adventure there…) We spent the first couple of days partaking in all kinds of fun wedding festivities which also included me doing hair and makeup for the bride, her mother, and her sister.
The wedding was at a gorgeous urban loft space called Room 1520 and I loved every detail!
Managed to find a boyfriend in Chicago…
We loved having the chance to stay in Val’s new apartment in Lincoln Park – such a cute neighborhood with tons of great restaurants… EXCEPT FOR HAVING TO HAUL MY GIANT 51 POUND SUITCASE UP AND DOWN 3 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS!!!! No handicap access!? What’s up with that?! #cityliving Check out this video of my troubles:
The next morning we hoofed it (in 25 degree weather!) two fantastic places.
The first was Heritage General Store which doubles as a bike repair store and a coffee shop/cafe. The atmosphere reminded me of something Nashville would have. Cute and cozy with a great variety of coffees and food. We were smitten.
What are y’all’s favorite Chicago hot spots?
As many of you know, I do a lot of work as a makeup artist. I’ve had so much fun working on lots of weddings, events, and photo shoots lately, so I thought I would share some of my recent work with you!
I worked on this beautiful wedding style shoot with the talented Kelly Dellinger Events (Nashville’s best wedding planner, seriously brides.) and Amy Nicole Photo (her images speak for themselves!) that was featured on Ruffled Blog! (To see the whole shoot, click here!) (Could I possibly put more of my thoughts in parenthesis?! Didn’t think so. Get it together Mader.)
I’ve also had the privilege of meeting, shooting with, and working for Brad Lovell in the past couple of months. I have loved styling the models clothes and hair and makeup! He has shot tons of models and pageant contestants and does a BEAUTIFUL headshot if anyone is needing a new set! He recently relocated from Virginia to Nashville and girls come in from all over the country to shoot with him! He also happens to be one of the sweetest country boys you’ll ever meet!
Stay tuned – tomorrow’s post will cover a Chicago wedding I just did and I have other shoots to share with you soon!
Just when you think spring has arrived, it snows. (At least in Nashville today…) HOWEVER, that hasn’t stopped me from compiling my list of fashion must-haves for spring 2014.
1.) Distressed denim – Denim is everywhere this spring – the jean jacket is back, they are making acid washed everything, and I love all of the distressed boyfriend jeans, jeggings, and high waisted shorts. Here are a couple pieces I’ll be sporting this spring.
2. Embellished Crop Tops – My friends won’t be surprised to hear this – I’ve been sporting many a crop top for the past several years, but the fancy ones that have been popping up on all of my favorite celebrities have inspired me for spring! My favorites have a loose fit and look awesome with a pencil skirt, or anything high waisted.
3.) Sneakers – You saw me sporting a wedge tennis shoe here, and I’m also obsessed with any any all converse!
4.) Bright manicures – Love this fun way to add a pop of color to your look!
5.) Ankle Strap Heels – Right now I think I love ANY shoe I see right now that has an ankle strap. Loving open toe and pointy toe styles alike!
What are some of the trends you’re looking forward to wearing this spring?
About a week ago I was fortunate enough to be invited to a brunch hosted by Lululemon Green Hills and Miriam Designs. The brunch had all of my favorite components: inspiring conversation, delicious vegan gluten free cuisine (courtesy of The Free Bakery and Backyard to Ballroom – check them out!), tons of freebees, and a beautiful aesthetic.
The talented Daniel C. White was on hand to capture some beautiful images.
I love everything about Lululemon’s aesthetic, but what I didn’t know until the brunch is how much I love them as a company. Lululemon’s mission is to elevate the world from mediocrity to greatness. They require their employees to have a clear vision for themselves for the next 10 years written down. Y’all might recall this post at the end of 2013 where I talked about how important writing goals down is. They also stress how important setting big goals is. It really resonated with me when they said you should be failing at over 50% of your goals – if you’re not, then your goals aren’t big enough. Food for thought! We did a little exercise in vision, and if you’re gonna preach it, you better do it yourself, right? Here’s mine!:
The brunch was filled with girl-crush worthy women. I loved how this event brought so many powerful, creative, and ambitious ladies together to encourage and support each other. I am currently obsessing over several of their blogs and stylish Instagram accounts. One of my favorites was Ciona Rouse who wrote the following poem (which ended up being used by Lululemon!):
Prior to the brunch, the ladies at Lululemon Green Hills had invited me to their store to pick out a couple of pieces to style and wear to the brunch. I’ve been a rabid Lululemon fan for years, so I was practically frothing at the mouth to choose my pieces. The beauty of Lululemon is how versatile it is, the clothes are so comfortable and flattering for your workout, but also look great worn with everyday pieces too! Comfort and style are what I’m all about!
I chose the Bring Back the Track Pant in cadet blue. This pant is incredibly light weight and has a lot of stretch. I’ll be hiking Percy Warner in these all spring… and wearing them all over town. I’ve already received a ton of compliments on these babies. I also got the After Asana Pullover in heathered medium grey. My favorite part about this pullover is the kangaroo pocket in the front – I love having an easy-to-reach place to keep my keys and phone and I LOVE the fun pop of color inside the pocket.
I styled this look with one of my favorite necklaces from a local designer, Sleeveless. The necklace is called the Caesar and you’ve probably seen me wearing it everywhere from at Miss USA to with my Lululemon! I also love to mix prints, so I carried a J. Crew leopard clutch and paired it with some camouflage wedge tennis shoes. (Thanks for letting me steal those for the day Jessica!) I polished my look off with some beachy/Victoria’s Secret/mermaid waves and a bold red lip (Symphony No. 1) from Therapy Systems.
Thanks again to Lululemon Green Hills, Miriam Designs, Daniel C. White Photography and everyone else who collaborated to make this wonderful morning possible!
