A few weeks ago I had the privilege of attending and doing hair and makeup for the most stunning Montana wedding. As many of you know, I grew up in Wyoming and for much of my life took the scenic views of the western part of the US somewhat for granted. Since moving to Tennessee, I am always in surprised how in awe of the mountains I am when I visit home. I had been to Montana several times, but never to the Three Forks/Bozeman area and I was expecting it to be great… but it far exceeded my expectations. I attended the wedding with several southern friends who had never ventured to this part of the country and it was fun to share in their new excitement of the beautiful scenery.
We stayed at the charming and historic Sacajawea Hotel in Three Forks and were treated to some incredible service including champagne upon check in, breakfast in bed every day, and helpful recommendations from friendly staff about attractions in the area.
The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and has a large wrap-around porch with lots of rocking chairs where we enjoyed several cups of coffee. There are also two great restaurants inside the hotel that serve everything from pub food to locally raised organic fare.
Our first adventure was a trip to Norris Hot Springs. What we learned was that everything is about 30 minutes away from anywhere you are in Montana – however this doesn’t end up being a problem because the drives are BEAUTIFUL. Norris Hot Springs – also called “water of the gods” is kind of a hippie watering hole – a relaxing time sitting in hot springs, hoping your body soaks up all of those beneficial minerals whilst also sipping beer or wine, eating food grown in their own garden, enjoying the scenery, and if you make it there on a weekend, enjoying live music. A good friend had told me that this was a must and they were so right!
We knew we wanted to do some hiking and hotel staff suggested the Lewis & Clark Caverns which includes a short but scenic hike up to the caverns and then a tour throughout the caves.
My pics don’t really do justice, so I stole this one from visitmt.com:
We also had fun taking part in all sorts of wedding festivities.
It was fun doing hair and makeup for such a stunning bride and bridal party. Ashley wanted to keep her makeup really natural and simple and have “hippie hair.” So I created what I’m calling “bends.” (Quotation mark overload.)
She wore a custom dress by Heidi Elnora that was absolute perfection on her.
The ceremony took place in a scenic field that had lots of sentimental value to Ashley and Dave.
Post ceremony, Ashley wanted to do a little hair change up. You like? She also added a unique detail to her dress that I am OBSESSED with – a hand piece that attached to the train of her dress. OBSESSED.
All of us had a blast at the wedding! Here are a few more photos of all the fun we had.
