This month’s playlist is filled with lots of ambient music, pop/indie pop. One of the standout artists this month is Jack Garratt. His track “The Love You’ve Been Given” (such a pretty song) made an appearance on my playlist a couple months ago and recently my friend Kara (also my photographer – check out her new site!) sent me, “Worry,” which I loved. (I also recommend “Breathe Life.”) Coincidentally Nashville’s independent radio station, Lightning 100 did a secret show with him shortly after. We weaseled our way into the show somehow and it was one of the more mind blowing performances I. HAVE. EVER. SEEN. (Listen here if you’re interested.) This guy plays multiple instruments while performing a single song. Piano, guitar, drums, some type of electronic loop situation… and his voice. It was sensory overload in the best way. Guys. I’m just telling you – if you can see this guy live, it will blow your mind. (You may have seen some of the performance if you foliow me on snapchat @BrennaMader – I got several messages that day asking who this prodigy is.) The music is great recorded, but completely takes on a new life during the live show.
Now, enjoy this month’s playlist – and as always, what are you listening to at the moment?
The fact that this year marks the two year anniversary of uploading a monthly playlist is like a little cold water splash of reality. Where have the last two years gone? They say the older you get, the faster the time passes and I think I’m starting to believe it!
I’m so looking forward to 2016. I think 2015 just kind of happened to me and I sat back and observed from the sidelines because it was happening too fast. I’m fully engaged and ready to be intentional about my time, goals, and vision for 2016. I just returned from spending New Years at the beach with two of my best girlfriends and I don’t think I’ve ever felt so relaxed, renewed, excited, and ready to grab a year by the horns.
The most perfect charming beach house that ever existed! Thanks to William from VR30A for suggesting it! I’ll be back. If you need a retreat – this is your place. A closer look at the perfection here: VR30A
Although you might think it would make sense to have a Christmas playlist this month, this one is my regular MO. Look for a Christmas themed playlist coming soon.
Ok, so my favorites this month? All over the board, just like always. Two versions of the country tune “Riser.” (Dierks Bentley’s version and [one of] the songwriter[s], Steve Moakler’s, version. Both so so good – this song moves me.) I also have two very different versions of “Hotline Bling” because for some reason I can’t get enough of that song and three different Tori Kelly tunes. She is just my absolute favorite pop princess to come along in a long time. Kills it. There are two perfect single girl love songs on this playlist too – “Dear No One” by Queen Tori Kelly and “it’s Strange” by Louis the Child feat. K. Flay (thanks for the suggestion Tammy!). Somehow they strike the balance of speaking to the bad@$$ery of being an independent female but also hoping to find the right person at some point. Well played ladies. I also have a special place in my heart for Roses by the Chainsmokers. I love the sentiment, I love the track, lyrics, etc. Can’t stop listening.

Today kicked off the first day of CMA Awards pre-taping. I am co-hosting the live red carpet show on abc.com again this year (Starts at 5 PM/C – I would love for you to tune in!) and Monday and Tuesday are full of taping segments, rehearsing, etc.
Interviewing country music newcomer and sweetheart Michael Ray. It’s his first year at the CMA Awards, but he’s already had a #1 hit “Kiss You In The Morning.” His newest single “Real Men Love Jesus” is beauuuuuutiful. Speaking of beautiful, my facial expression in this photo is the opposite of that. OH WELL.
With the Siri of the CMA Awards aka the booming voice announcing all non hosted things. So cool meeting John Willyard.
This month’s playlist has been with me through all corners of the US and in Italy as well. This past month has been incredibly busy with work and then with a 9 day trip to Italy! (Post coming soon!) These songs are a reflection of what I was feeling and listening to from San Deigo to Florence. Speaking of Florence, I was lucky enough to see Florence + The Machine, Leon Bridges, and Allen Stone in concert this past month. All 3 artist are PHENOMENAL live – if you get the chance to see them, drop everything and do it! (You may have seen some footage via snapchat @BrennaMader and they all sound just as good in an iPhone recording as they do on their albums. #legit)

What are you kids listening to right now that you can’t get enough of?
