Y’all know how much I love green juice and smoothies and lately I’ve been craving a switch up from my usual recipe. I added a few new ingredients to add to the nutritional benefit and even my roommate, who I think wants to vomit every time she sees me drinking something green, says she likes this!
smo-001For 1 smoothie you’ll need:

  • 1 cup water
  • Half a bag of organic spinach
  • 1 cup organic frozen tropical fruit mix (love this one from Trader Joe’s!)
  • the juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 TBSP chia seeds
  • 1 inch chunk of fresh ginger
  • 1 tsp core greensStart by pouring the water into your blender and add chia seeds and spinach next, add everything else on top and blend until smooth. (The vitamix will give you the best texture!) Enjoy! In case you aren’t familiar with chia seeds, here are a few of the benefits:

When I was in LA last month I couldn’t help eating my way through several healthy restaurants. One trend I noticed that I haven’t seen in Nashville was “health shots” boasting things like “immunity” or “debloating.” I loved the idea of downing lots of good nourishing ingredients quickly and decided to come up with my own recipe.

I thought my recipe would be timely for January as it is great for immunity, detoxing, and weight loss. photo 1(5)For one shot you’ll need:

  • 1 lemon
  • 1 inch piece of fresh ginger
  • Cayenne pepper (as much as you can handle, I usually do 2 hard shakes)
  • Tumeric (same as cayenne)
  • Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar (I do about tablespoon)
  • Lemon juicer

    First press the lemon in sections through the lemon juicer

    I actually put the ginger through the lemon juicer too and it works just fine! Add the spices and Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar, stir, and throw it back! Don’t even attempt to let yourself taste it, just swallow and chase with water! (It’s not so bad!)

    Ginger has been called “the world’s healthiest food” and is known to be a natural anti inflammatory. It is also effective as an anti nausea remedy and has been said to suppress the appetite among many other things!

    Cayenne pepper aids in breaking up and moving congested mucus, helps with migrane prevention, joint pain, supports heart health, weight loss, and is being studied as a possible cancer anti-agent!

    Tumeric has antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, anticarcinogenic, antimutagenic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also loaded with many healthy nutrients such as protein, dietary fiber, niacin, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, sodium, potassium, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium and zinc. It is used to help treat a wide variety of diseases.

    Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar helps detox, balance the body’s pH levels, aids in weight loss, and is great for the lymphatic system. There is also research suggesting that apple cider vinegar can help reduce heartburn.
