Sometimes a gal just needs a little getaway to revive, refresh, and refocus, so when I was invited to check out The Inn at Fontanel, I jumped at the opportunity. I knew January was the perfect time to go on a little retreat with my bestie, roommate, fellow entrepreneur, and all around girl boss, Taryn to think about my goals for this year, relax, and just have some fun!
The Inn at Fontanel is only about a 15 minute drive from Nashville, but it feels like you’re a world away. Tucked in a small town surrounded by woods, it’s the perfect quaint setting for fun with friends, family, romance, or even some great alone time. (Um… this is totally where I’m retreating to if I ever write a book…) Continue reading →
Do you like the NFL? Do you like beauty queens? Do you like supporting worthy causes? If you answered yes to any of these questions I have just the ticket for you! In exactly 1 week, the first ever Clash of the Titans event is coming to Nashville! Current and former Titans and other NFL players are coming together to play a charity basketball game. Who does this benefit you ask? A program called Gethsemane House. Gethsemane House is a ministry that meets the needs of children in the poverty stricken community of Ayacucho, Peru by feeding, educating, and providing health care for the children and their families. There are close to 100 children currently involved in their program. Gethsemane House can’t meet all of the families needs, so Christ Life Community has decided to partner with the Gethsemane House and help meet these needs.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Purchase them here!
Did I mention that there will be some beauty queens there? Four former Miss Tennessee USA’s including myself will be there to sign autographs and make fools of ourselves at halftime! Taryn Foshee of Women Can Talk Sports (You may remember me talking about her incredible app here!) will be the mistress of ceremonies and Forte Femme (watch their latest video here!) will be singing the national anthem!
Hope to see you there!
Last week I was delighted to experience a little bit of Wanderlust and vacation in my own city at an open house for the full service Mokara Spa inside the beaaautiful Omni Hotel Nashville. I enjoyed a full tour of the gorgeous facility, a manicure, champagne, gifts, and lots of relaxation!
Taryn and I showing off our fresh paint!
The spa is on the same level as the rooftop pool and if you book a spa service, you gain access to the pool, relaxation lounge, showers, sauna, etc. for the day! Luckily for YOU, the Mokara Spa is offering Wanderlust and Glitter Dust readers a 10% discount on any spa or salon service, just mention this post!
Relaxing in the relaxation room… I mean what else would you do in there? Note: They don’t aaaalways have a live harpist. haha
As Taryn later told our friend Billy, going to the spa is a way. of. life. haha
Each part of the spa over looks a different part of downtown Nashville, and on Saturdays there is a 10 AM yoga class on a rooftop patio, complimentary to guests and $25 for anyone else.
Gorgeous decor and lighting are a staple inside Mokara.
I’ll never turn one of these down!
We didn’t want to leave, but alas all good things must come to an end… for now. 🙂
As many of you know, I do a lot of work as a makeup artist. I’ve had so much fun working on lots of weddings, events, and photo shoots lately, so I thought I would share some of my recent work with you!
I worked on this beautiful wedding style shoot with the talented Kelly Dellinger Events (Nashville’s best wedding planner, seriously brides.) and Amy Nicole Photo (her images speak for themselves!) that was featured on Ruffled Blog! (To see the whole shoot, click here!) (Could I possibly put more of my thoughts in parenthesis?! Didn’t think so. Get it together Mader.)
I die for this beauty’s face. Seriously a stunning girl! I used one of my MAC lipstick favorites, Diva, on her.
How gorgeous are the headpieces we got to use for this shoot? I want one for a night out… Hipster beauty queen to the max! Thinking about doing a hair tutorial on how to do your own 1920’s inspired faux bob… any takers out there?
I’ve also had the privilege of meeting, shooting with, and working for Brad Lovell in the past couple of months. I have loved styling the models clothes and hair and makeup! He has shot tons of models and pageant contestants and does a BEAUTIFUL headshot if anyone is needing a new set! He recently relocated from Virginia to Nashville and girls come in from all over the country to shoot with him! He also happens to be one of the sweetest country boys you’ll ever meet! 🙂
I bet you won’t find it hard to believe that at least once a week a boy pulls me aside to talk about how piercing Taryn’s eyes are… haha I can’t handle how beautiful she is (inside and out – if you missed my post about the cool app she just launched, check it out here!)
The stunning Abby Floyd who was Miss Arkansas Teen USA 2013. I successfully talked her into moving to Nashville during this shoot! You’re welcome Belmont University incoming freshman boys!
Working with Nashville model, Stephanie.
My beautiful little sis, Emily Suttle, Miss Tennessee Teen USA 2013. Um when did she turn into a fierce supermodel though?! Amazing!
A few new headshots Brad did for me! I love them!
What I wanted this headshot to convey: “Hi!!!!!! I’m here to tell you everything you need to know about country music!!”
…and ok I didn’t work on this shoot with him, but I’m obsessed with this image and just wanted to share it because I wish it was me in this photo! haha
Stay tuned – tomorrow’s post will cover a Chicago wedding I just did and I have other shoots to share with you soon!
As a woman who doesn’t know a darn thing about sports, there have been many conversations I haven’t been able to participate in throughout my life. Whether it be on a job, with my dad or guy friends, or in a regular social situation, sports are a popular topic much more interesting to most people than say… the weather. Even if you aren’t a sports lover (guilty!), I have found that having a few intelligent things to say on the topic can be a catalyst to many other valuable conversations that wouldn’t have happened otherwise. #empowerment
She’s not only my roommate and best friend, but someone who’s real passion for empowering women inspires me!
The Women Can Talk Sports founder, Taryn, is a sports enthusiast who is passionate about bringing more women into the sports conversation. Being able to talk sports has had a direct influence on many personal and professional relationships throughout her life and now she is here to help us all!
Chatting with the literal throngs of attendee’s at the app launch party!
We couldn’t even fit all of the app launch party attendees into one photo!
Part of the reason I don’t love sports is because I don’t understand many of them. (Although, not to braaaag, but I was a non starter on my 8th grade basketball’s B-Team…) The Women Can Talk Sports App and Blogare your one stop shop to learning everything you need to know to be able to talk – and enjoy sports!
You too can have this cute logo on your phone!
Taryn is currently living with her target audience (me) and the fact that I even know the words (and meanings of) “NFL Combine” and “Selection Sunday” are a true testament to her talent! (Check out her hilarious article on how the NFL Combine and her experience at Miss America are parallel here – now that’s something I can relate to!)
With Taryn and our friend Billy at my very first SEC football game. (Can you tell it was a Vanderbilt game by our outfits? Dressing for the game is something I can definitely get down with, especially here in the South! Southern women take it to another level!) Just one of many sports firsts I’ve had because of Taryn. I have to admit, I’ve had so much fun at any and all events we’ve gone to! (She probably doesn’t have as much fun since I am usually hounding her with questions… I guess I should just refer below…)
A few articles in the football section of the app.
So head on over to the App Store and get your free download of the Women Can Talk Sports App today! (While you’re at it, you might as well like her Facebook page and follow her on Twitter and Instagram!) It has tons of cool features – like my favorite, a section where you can record your questions into your phone microphone and it sends it directly to Taryn who will answer you back!
The home screen displaying a few of the many features the app has!
So yeah… if you have any questions, send them to her. 🙂 Happy Thursday everyone!
