I’m a firm believer that if you start your Monday on a positive and healthy note, you’re more likely to follow suit for the rest of the week. That’s why most Monday’s ’round here are dedicated to good nutrition, fitness, etc. (I’m preaching to mySELF)
Y’all know that raw fresh pressed juice is my jam. (See here, here, and here) Even though I have my own juicer, I end up buying this delicious elixir of optimum health (who even talks like that?! #nerdalert) a lot because there are so many wonderful places to grab it all over the city of Nashville. I’m totally addicted, but one of my New Year’s resolutions is to cook/eat more at home… and yes, I count juicing as cooking (ha!) and sometimes I consume a juice as a meal. (If you’ve ever cleaned a juicer, you understand what I’m talking about.)Continue reading →
Some of the best little health and beauty secrets I have revolve around organic lemons. My kitchen always has them on hand and I go through them quickly. Today I’m sharing my favorite uses for them! Continue reading →
A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of being a guest on the Moll Anderson show. I’ve been a fan of Moll since I first moved to Nashville 7 years ago and she had a column in Nashville Lifestyles Magazine. Moll is girl-crush worthy – an all around power woman who is an Emmy Award winning tv/radio host, famed interior designer, author, and life-stylist. She asked me about some of my favorite topics – fitness and nutrition, pageants, body image, confidence, dating, and OBVIOUSLY Wanderlust and Glitter Dust! If you missed me live, you can check it out here!
Y’all might remember my passion for the summer workout I’ve been doing at TITLE Boxing Nashville. Recently they offered me the chance to work one-on-one with one of their best trainers, DJ Miller. One thing I’ve learned since starting my adventure with boxing is that the technique is truly an art. From the way you hold your hand inside your glove, to the muscle you’re powering your punch from, there is a lot that goes into getting the best workout without injuring yourself. TITLE Nashville is now offering you the chance to have two FREE personal training sessions with DJ – just for signing up for classes! That’s right, Wanderlust and Glitter Dust readers who mention this post and sign up for classes for the first time will receive two free hour long one-on-one personal training sessions with DJ.
Firstly, let’s talk about DJ, because he’s badddddd. He has long braids, tattoos, and the kind of muscle tone that will probably never be attainable for my body type… but what better way to try to get it than to work with someone who has it?! Oh, and his background fighting…
DJ is one of top fighters in the country in 2 weight classes (145 and 155 lbs) and holds 8 championship belts. He hopes to start a professional career in 2015… so I guess you could say he knows a thing or two about boxing. He also happens to be patient (necessary when personal training me), knowledgeable, and fun to work with. He’ll kick your butt and you’ll have a great time too.
Here are a few pics from a recent session:
This punch is called a hook. Incorrect form on the top, correct form on the bottom. PROTECT THE FACE, DON’T FORGET TO PROTECT THE FACE!
He’s such a good teacher, he taught me how to beat him down. Does this mean I can say that I won 8 championship belts…?
This is going to sound crazy, but taking classes and training with DJ have legitimately made me consider training in the ring more seriously… Who knows I might be the first hipster beauty queen boxer. Be sure to leave me a comment with your questions about boxing and as always, let me know if you’d like to join me at class – I’m there 2-3 times a week. We can sweat (and burn 1,000 calories!) together!
Y’all know how much I love green juice and smoothies and lately I’ve been craving a switch up from my usual recipe. I added a few new ingredients to add to the nutritional benefit and even my roommate, who I think wants to vomit every time she sees me drinking something green, says she likes this! For 1 smoothie you’ll need:
1 cup water
Half a bag of organic spinach
1 cup organic frozen tropical fruit mix (love this one from Trader Joe’s!)
the juice of 1 lemon
1 TBSP chia seeds
1 inch chunk of fresh ginger
1 tsp core greensStart by pouring the water into your blender and add chia seeds and spinach next, add everything else on top and blend until smooth. (The vitamix will give you the best texture!) Enjoy! In case you aren’t familiar with chia seeds, here are a few of the benefits: and as mentioned in my raw brownies recipe, you know I’m obsessed with Core Greens To learn more about the benefits of lemon and ginger, check out my recipe for the immunity/weight loss shot! Start your week off with some goodness, Happy Monday!
